Fall is here; Daylight Savings Time is over; and so is the State Fair. This year it seemed bigger and better than ever, especially if you were a kid. But one attraction that didn’t change and hasn’t changed much since 1942 is the Apex Lions food booth.
From all the Lions, their spouses, friends, and volunteers who worked the booth, we want to express a heartfelt thank you for your continued support. It was good to see so many old friends who stop by year after year to enjoy “good food for a good cause.” The homemade soup is a big favorite, along with the foot long hot dogs and of course all the fine pies. And where else could you find made-from-scratch biscuits, prepared daily by Miss Frances and Miss Monni; roughly 10,000 biscuits, to be shared with our closest friends.
The annual fair is the cornerstone of our fundraising activities. Proceeds are used to provide services to the blind and vision impaired, from everyday assistance like free eye exams for those in need to the NC Lion’s summer camp for the blind, Camp Dogwood. In addition, many community organizations are supported like Cub Scout pack 312; Boy Scout Troop 209; the Western Wake Crisis Ministries; and the Apex Police Explorer Post.
So, once again, thank you for your support and we’ll look for you next year, same time, same place.
